Caring for Marriage

It was a fast sell. I opened the link, not feeling particularly interested. Then I clicked on the trailer.

By the time it was two minutes in I knew I would buy it. I watched a second time, just to attend to the faces of the spouse not speaking. Still Standing is a movie produced by Black and Married With Kids. The intention of the couple who created it is to offer an image of success for black marriages. Seeing what victory looks like helps us follow behind.

I love that one of the wives described her commitment as a seat belt. It keeps her tethered for the wild ride that is her marriage. A few years ago Caring for Marriage created a short video with the same idea called Buckle Up. Perhaps you are one of the sixteen million folks who have seen the commercial called Embrace Life. It is not a stretch to suggest that the latter has saved a few hundred lives. I also boldly believe that Still Standing has impacted marriages in a community that deserves support.

Buying a copy of their DVD set me back less than a ticket to a game. And now it is mine to watch and lend many times over. That feels like a three pointer.
