Our family has a long history of homemade costumes. There was the year we were the characters from The Wizard of Oz. Chara's Dorothy costume was easy enough, and the lion suit for Zack went well with his flyaway red hair. John constructed arms and legs of tin cans, and we painted Mercy's face silver. When the twins
came along, there were lots of possibilities for pairs, like Raggedy Ann and Andy. Lukas had his own epic ideas, like a working stop light and a backwards man.
Benjamin likes Woody enough that he wore that spotted vest long after it was too tight. You could pull the string in the back and he would speak.
"There's a snake in my boot."
For perhaps the first time, I ordered one online. Ben asked to be Mr. Incredible. It arrived quickly and he tried it on. I am partial to that movie, because it is one of very few animated films I can think of that depict a well oiled marriage. Bob and Helen work out their
problems together, even while fleeing danger or rescuing their children. It matters to me, that we tell stories in which couples make partnership a priority. Disney films are more inclined to have widows, than husbands and wives. Then there are the ever popular scripts about falling in love, which end at the church door.
I am glad that Ben's outfit comes with its own
abs. It helps him feel the part.
To me, he is incredible for entirely different reasons.
