There was a question posed on the channel I work with, called Off the Left Eye. Someone wanted to understand what wisdom means. The panel on the live show had fun exploring ways to capture what by rights could be indescribable. Do we really think that there are enough adjectives to illustrate a quality that ripens like a Durian, which is a fruit grown in Southeast
Asia and isn't ready for two years?
Fables and trilogies depict a wise man with snowy hair, and an unflappable demeanor. Impulsiveness, and bravado are not part of the dynamic. Rather, wisdom reveals itself through actions, not simply knowledge.
A wise woman, too, is one who has been weathered by life's tempests, and learned to respond with compassion.
Wisdom and love have a healthy relationship.
Loving someone is great in theory, but you have to know how to embody it. Today I asked for ideas to support someone having a hard time. Without action, my intentions are like an empty box, wrapped in bright paper.
Similarly, having the wherewithal to accomplish a valuable task, but not ever doing it, is another missed opportunity.
The union of both understanding and willingness is what wisdom looks like. And although I have never
tasted a Durian, some people say it is worth both the price and the wait.
