It has been over a year since I embarked on weekly walking. I am, of course, late to that particular party, and yet my body is appreciative all the same. The women I stroll with are much fitter than I am, and are patient if I need to pause to catch my breath.
Walking itself amazes me. One foot is suspended in the air while the other is
firmly planted. This is not true of running, but I have little hope of mastering that fine habit before I leave the planet. The rhythm of two feet is one of interaction, and independence too. The foot in front is only afforded the freedom to step into space because of the balance created by the one in back. Yet the second foot gets his or her turn to venture forth, and reach into the path ahead. There is a kind of trust, and partnership that does my heart good.
Literally.
My relationship with John is that way. We sway to and fro, him taking the lead in a conversation about electronics like we had with our sons last night, and I step out ahead when we are starting a new group.
It is my hope that with a rhythm like that we can go to wonderful places.
"For love and wisdom to be a single whole in angels and in us, there are pairs throughout our bodies. Our
eyes, ears, and nostrils are paired, our hands, sides and feet are paired, our brains are divided into two hemispheres, our heart into two chambers, our lungs into two lobes, and so on. So for both angels and us there is a right side and a left side, and all the right side parts have to do with love that gives rise to wisdom, while all the left side parts have to do with the wisdom of that love."
