One of my favorite scenes in the movie "Newsies" is when Jack and his buddies sneak into the basement to crank up the retired printing press of the angry owner of the largest newspaper in New York. They meticulously set each block letter in place to spell out the insidious story of child labor. Then they heave the huge cylinders over and over to print a hundred copies. It takes all
night. At dawn they pedal them around the streets looking for indentured children who can read, thus igniting a revolution.
A while back my remarkable husband stayed up until the midnight deadline to format and submit my second book of moats. There was no sleuthing around in the basement and no trace of ink on his hands. But through the wizardry of digital files a hundred thousand letters and pixels flew through the air to... somewhere. Because of the special offer that expired like Cinderella's coach at the stroke of twelve the book costs as much as a sandwich.
There are over a hundred stories coupled with the astonishing images of a dozen clever photographers. I am deeply grateful to them, and to you dear readers, for being part of the current that strives to bring goodness to our hurting world.
